Saturday was the Feast of Saint John Paul II, who was the head of the Catholic Church from 1978 until 2005, and who became a saint in 2013.  He traveled more than any other pope before him, visiting many of the countries of the world, and preached that people should work for change in nonviolent ways. He was also the first pope to apologize to groups that had been wronged by Catholics, notably to Jewish and to Muslim people. Saint John Paul II CES is in Richmond Hill.

Today is United Nations Day. This day recognizes the United Nations organization and all who serve and participate in it. The UN is dedicated to world peace and to the betterment of humanity through a wide range of programs from world hunger to environment and health issues.

Almost all countries in the world are members of this organization. In many ways the United Nations lives out the values of compassion and service that Jesus taught even though many members are not Christian. We pray that the work of the healing of the earth continues through the United Nations and other good people. CGE 6e

God of unity and love,
Grant us a common faith that all shall know bread and peace—that we shall know justice and righteousness, freedom and security, an equal opportunity and an equal chance to do our best not only in our own lands, but throughout the world. And in that faith let us march toward the
better world our hands can make with your help.
Let us close our prayer in this month dedicated to Mary by saying…

Hail Mary
Full of grace,
The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women
and Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

We close in the name of  the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
