The entire Father Bressani Catholic High School community rallied together to raise more than 1,050 toys for the City of Vaughan’s Fill the Net Toy Drive Contest. In addition to gathering toy donations, students also contributed more than 1,500 canned goods to the Vaughan Food Bank. As winners of the contest, students and staff won the opportunity to host the official kick-off assembly for Rogers Hometown Hockey and received a visit from City of Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua on January 10.
“This is the first time our school has participated in this contest. We are so incredibly proud of our students and the community for their endless generosity. Everyone came together to remember and support those in need,” said Sandra Abate, principal at Father Bressani. “We thank the Father Bressani community for remembering the words of St. Teresa of Calcutta, ‘Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.’”
The assembly was initiated and organized by the Grade 11 class who also hosted the toy drive. At the assembly, the school was surprised with a special video message from retired Toronto Maple Leafs goalie, Curtis Joseph, who congratulated the school on their achievement.
