In Memory of Todd Erick Jamieson

In Memory of Todd Erick Jamieson

With deep sadness and gratitude, we share the passing of Todd Jamieson, a beloved colleague, friend, and Indigenous education partner who dedicated over 23 years to the York Catholic District School Board. You can read Todd’s obituary by clicking here.

Todd was a passionate advocate for Indigenous education and reconciliation. His leadership brought about meaningful change, including board-wide land acknowledgements, the implementation of Indigenous-focused English courses, and school-specific initiatives that deeply enriched student learning.

An educator, Knowledge Keeper, and gifted artist, Todd shared his wisdom and creativity through classroom presentations, art sessions, and storytelling. His artwork, including the Indigenous Education team logo, blending the Cross with the medicine wheel, symbolized his commitment to honouring both Catholic and Indigenous traditions with humility and respect.

He courageously served as a bridge between cultures, often reflecting with sweetgrass in hand, seeking to bring truth, reconciliation, and healing to our school communities. His influence helped shape our observances of Orange Shirt Day, Treaty Recognition Week, National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and many more, not as symbolic acts, but as opportunities for learning, empathy, and transformation.

Though his journey was not without challenge, Todd remained steadfast, believing that this was where the work of reconciliation was most needed. His presence, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to future generations will be deeply missed.

We hold his family, community, and all who knew and loved him in our prayers. May his spirit continue to guide us.

The YCDSB community is invited to a celebration of life for Todd on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Catholic Education Centre (320 Bloomington Road West, Aurora, Ont.). Please RSVP using the form found here.

Yawko, Todd, for all you gave. As you walk with the ancestors now, and may your spirit continue to guide us.
