Nominations Are Open for the 20th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Awards

York Catholic DSB alumni do amazing things around the world every day. From science to sports to business to religious life to community building, there is no limit to what our alumni can do.

To celebrate our amazing York Catholic graduates, every year, our school board asks the community for nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Awards. This is a special way to celebrate York Catholic alumni who have done remarkable things.  

This is the 20th year that the Distinguished Alumni Award has been bestowed, so what better time to nominate the very special YCDSB alumni in your life?

Last year’s Distinguished Alumni winners were:

  • Andi Petrillo – Sportscaster for CBC Sports and OneSoccer, and graduate of St. Joan of Arc CHS in Maple.
  • Andrew Nembhard – Member of the starting line-up of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, and graduate of St. Jerome CES in Aurora.
  • Daniele Rossi – Digital marketer, cartoonist and advocate for the stuttering community, and a graduate of St. Elizabeth CHS in Thornhill.
  • Jim Anderson – An active community volunteer who manages several Rogers tv studios in York and Durham regions. He is a graduate of St. Robert CHS in Thornhill.
  • John Calarco – Canada Research Chair in Neural RNA Biology at the University of Toronto, and graduate of Father Bressani CHS in Woodbridge.
  • Maria-Rosa La Neve – clinical research nurse coordinator and RSV nurse coordinator, and graduate of St. Robert CHS in Thornhill.

If you know someone who should be recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of York Catholic DSB, please nominate them here by January 14, 2024.

Distinguished Alumni Awards winners:

  • Have made a significant contribution to their field, industry and/or community, and are an inspiration to others (and have worked in their field for at least two years)
  • Reflect one or more of the Catholic School Graduate Expectations
  • Demonstrate creative and critical thinking skills and integrate Catholic values into their daily lives, as a socially responsible global citizen
  • Graduated from a York Catholic secondary school or spent the majority of their formative years in a York Catholic school
