St. Anne’s Black History Month presentations

St. Anne Catholic Elementary School in Richmond Hill celebrated Black History month by hosting a series of virtual speakers and presentations.

Through the generous support of its Catholic School Council, St. Anne hosted presenters from the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum on February 8th for students in Grades 4-8. The Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum is a social innovation organization that works to promote innovative thinking in young people by highlighting the achievements of innovators from diverse backgrounds.

On February 11th, St. Anne CES welcomed back award-winning poet, author and entrepreneur, Nadine Williams. Williams delivered two presentations to the school. The first presentation was for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students on the topic of resilience, “like elastics, we bounce back.” The second presentation was for Grade 4-8 students on “nurturing hope through allyship.” Both of her presentations engaged students in discussions about Black History through visual art installations, readings, storytelling, and more.

Kindergarten to Grade 3 students at the Richmond Hill school also watched a virtual ‘Read Aloud’ session by legendary musician, Maestro Fresh Wes on February 22.
