The York Catholic District School Board is proud to share its list of the Top Scholars from each of its secondary schools. This year, the top spot is a four-way tie between students who earned a perfect 100 percent average in their graduating year. Congratulations to: Giuseppe Carito, Rachel Gaspar, Maya Paladino and Sarvnaz Ale Mohammad.
Two of the perfect-average students hail from St. Jean de Brebeuf and one each from Father Bressani and St. Robert Catholic High School.

This is an outstanding academic achievement, and we send you heartfelt congratulations and wish you all the best on your next journey. The success of all of our Top Scholars is also due in part to their parents, families, friends, teachers, education workers, administrators, student services personnel, Catholic Education Centre staff, and trustees who have supported and encouraged them throughout their time with York Catholic. Giuseppe Carito and Rachel Gaspar are this year’s top scholars from St. Jean de Brebeuf, Maya Paladino is the top scholar from Father Bressani, and Sarvnaz Ale Mohammad is the top scholar from St. Robert Catholic High School.
Giuseppe Carito will begin his studies in Life Sciences at the University of Toronto. Giuseppe hopes to study medicine and eventually work in healthcare. Giuseppe says, “The pandemic has reinforced the integral role that healthcare professionals play in our society. I can attribute my success to my incredible high school teachers, who worked tirelessly to provide us with the best education possible. I also credit my accomplishments to my parents, who have instilled in me the importance of hard work.” Congratulations, Giuseppe. We wish you success in your future endeavors.
Rachel Gaspar feels honoured to be named one of this year’s YCDSB Top Scholars and a graduate of St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS. She was awarded generous scholarships from York University, where she will be pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science with a double major in Mathematics and Law and Society. Rachel has a passion for mathematics and problem-solving. She plans to continue on to Osgoode Hall Law School after completing her undergraduate degree. Whether advocating for clients, defending human rights, promoting justice and equality, or holding corporations accountable, a career in law will provide her with the opportunity to help individuals, groups, or organizations with their legal issues and to further the public good. In doing so, she hopes to dedicate herself to understanding the law and helping apply the law to better enhance the lives of others. Rachel is grateful to her parents for their unconditional love and support and for instilling in her a strong work ethic and a commitment to academic success. A special thank you to her teachers at St. Jean de Brebeuf for their continuous support and encouragement.
Maya Paladino will be studying Engineering Science at the University of Toronto. Maya was enrolled in Father Bressani’s Advanced Placement program. She balanced her academic achievements with other interests, including figure skating, school clubs, and reading. Maya is grateful for the support and encouragement of her family, friends, and teachers. She is excited to study engineering so she can put her problem-solving skills to use and contribute to innovative solutions.
Sarvnaz Ale Mohammad will be attending the University of Toronto Engineering Science program. Sarvnaz is grateful for her supportive family and amazing teachers who have enabled her success throughout high school. She also attributes this accomplishment to her time management and prioritization. Moving forward, she hopes to use her engineering degree to innovate for the advancement of social good.
