The Frost and Fire Games Celebrating Indigenous Culture

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) looks back at the Frost and Fire Games, which were held in March 2025.

These games have become an annual YCDSB tradition, where secondary and elementary students work together to make learning about Indigenous culture and heritage fun and engaging.

As YCDSB Senior Indigenous Student Representative, Isaac Aid, said:

“The Frost and Fire Games carry the heart and spirit of Indigenous traditions, resilience, strength and connection. They teach us about coming together, learning from one another and celebrating a culture that has been passed down through generations. Indigenous traditions aren’t just history, they’re alive, they’re thriving, and they’re meant to be celebrated.”

Thank you to the family of schools at St. Brother André Catholic High School in Markham, Ont, and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Academy in Keswick, Ont., for making the Frost and Fire Games during the 2024-25 school year possible. Also, thank you to the Indigenous community partners who guided these students throughout their learning journey.
