Ukrainian Students Are Welcomed by York Catholic District School Board and York Region Community Partners

The York Catholic District School Board will welcome about 80 Ukrainian families and students into our schools for the 2022–2023 school year. We are grateful to our York Catholic District School Board students, staff, and families for fundraising more than $88,000, with the support of the Archdiocese of Toronto, to help those impacted by the tragedy that continues to unfold in Ukraine. Our York Catholic Parent Involvement Committee also donated an additional $8,000 to support our new students from Ukraine.

Each Ukrainian student will receive a “welcome-to-school” backpack on their first day of school filled with items that will help them feel a little more at home in Canada. We aim to ensure each student feels prepared, welcomed, and safe in our classrooms and Catholic learning communities. Pictured below are some of the materials included in the backpacks.

A special thank you to the Principal of International & Continuing Education Program for facilitating the “welcome-to-school” backpacks.

To our Ukrainian families: WELCOME to the York Catholic District School Board!
