York Catholic Reaches Out To Children & Families In Ukraine

Loonie/Toonie Fundraisers An Overwhelming Success.

As a Catholic faith community, the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) is actively participating in helping raise funds to support those impacted by the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine.

In the spirit of the Lenten season, students, staff and parents across the YCDSB held a series of “Loonie/Toonie Days”, gathering record donations for the cause.

Together with staff, students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 also contributed to the initiative with special prayers of hope: for those who have lost their lives… for loved ones in Ukraine… for all refugees…for the sick and vulnerable…and particularly, all children and youth caught in the conflict.

Working with the Archdiocese of Toronto, the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) and the Office for Refugees (ORAT), YCDSB donations will be channeled to assist millions of Ukrainians in need of humanitarian aid.

CNEWA is a papal agency with a long history of humanitarian relief; it is currently working in Eastern Europe, providing Ukrainians with food, shelter, medicine and transportation to safe locations. ORAT is Canada’s largest private Sponsorship Agreement Holder, which helps bring hundreds of newcomers to our country each year; it will use donations to bring Ukrainian refugees to Canada

Congratulations to all at York Catholic, for demonstrating what caring in action can do!
