York Catholic students take home 3 of 4 awards at annual Crime Stoppers poster and video contest

More than 100 students participated in Crime Stoppers of York Region’s Student School Symposium poster and video challenge to promote the theme, “protect each other, and respect each other.” This year, York Catholic District School Board students won three of four awards in efforts to raise awareness about Crime Stoppers in their schools.

This also happens to be the first year students were able to submit a video for the competition. Michael Speciale, Grade 12 student from St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS became the first to ever win this challenge. Speciale called on the help of his friends to be actors in his video to reinforce the important message – If you see something wrong. Report it.

Congratulations to the poster winners:

Andrea Christuraja, Grade 12 student from St. Brother Andre CHS in Markham

Elizabeth Kwofie, Grade 12 student from St. Brother Andre CHS in Markham

Congratulations to the video winner:

Michael Speciale, Grade 12 student from St. Jean de Brebeuf CHS in Woodbridge

The poster winners each won $250 for their winning creations. The video winner took home $300 for his powerful message.
