Superintendent of Education, Siobhan Wright, has recently been named the Ontario recipient of The OCSOA EXL Award For Excellence in Leadership for her outstanding contributions to equity in the education system. This award is presented to superintendents who exhibit great enthusiasm and dedication in their roles as administrators, in their guidance to children throughout their educational process. Siobhan will be accepting this award at the CASSA Conference and Awards Ceremony in Victoria BC this July.
Siobhan has worked incredibly hard throughout her 21 year career at the York Catholic District School Board. She has been a tremendous leader as a full-day kindergarten, primary and junior teacher, physical education teacher, vice principal, principal and Superintendent of Education. She has humbly excelled and led her students and staff throughout all her roles with York Catholic.
Siobhan has a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Equity Studies, and has supported the development of various curriculum resources for the Board and Ministry. She has been a contributing member and co-facilitator for various curriculum roll outs such as Eportfolio, Daily Physical Education, Primary Religion resources and STREAM initiatives and programs, to name just a few.
Outside the classroom/office, Siobhan has shared her remarkable leadership skills and experience in a number of different ways. These include Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario (CPCO) and University of Queens presenter, Anti-Racism co-presenter for various corporations, and YCDSB Wellness Committee member. She was also the Board lead for the Anti-Black Racism Pillar of the Human Rights, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (HEDIAC). Siobhan has been a leader in the basketball community and the Ontario Basketball Association. She was a well-respected referee as well as the VP of the York Region Officials Association. She was a proud mentor for future leaders in the YCDSB to join and give back to the sport.
Siobhan is an inspirational model to everyone at YCDSB, including students, teachers, parents and colleagues. She is highly motivated to make a positive difference in her community and has positively touched the lives of so many people. She is a passionate servant leader who believes that when we provide an inclusive environment and conditions for student achievement, all students can reach their full God-given potential. She embodies the York Catholic DSB’s virtues and continues to include and respect all individuals.
