Holy Cross Catholic Academy teams up with Gown Girl to provide free dresses to students

Holy Cross Catholic Academy and Gown Girl, a non-profit organization, recently teamed up to provide students from across the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB), with more than 60 free, new and lightly worn dresses for all types of occasions – a first for YCDSB.

When Amandalina Letterio, founder of Gown Girl, approached the school with this idea, staff at the school immediately recognized the benefits for students. “It’s a great opportunity provided to students across our Board to choose a gown to be worn at such memorable school events as semi-formal and prom. Students were most appreciative to community members and local businesses for their generosity and thoughtfulness,” says Edward Lavor, Principal at Holy Cross.

“This event is intended to create a supportive environment among young people. Apart from helping students to save money and alleviating fashion industry pollution, it also helps to uplift mentality for the younger generation which enables them to help each other succeed and feel good doing it,” says Letterio founder of Gown Girl.
