When the City of Vaughan requested Our Lady of the Rosary CES to help kick-off their 10th Annual Toy Drive in support of CP24’s Chum Christmas Wish, staff and students jumped on the opportunity to spread the holiday cheer to those in need.
In preparation for the launch, students and staff transformed the school into the North Pole with student artwork and décor to welcome family and friends from the City of Vaughan, CHUM 104.5 and CP24. At the entrance of the school is a mountainous display of toys generously donated by the school and community members in support the toy drive.
“We are so thankful to the City of Vaughan for including us in this incredible initiative,” said Kendall Myler, Principal at Our Lady of the Rosary. “When I relayed this opportunity to students and staff, they immediately took on the challenge. It was no easy task to transform the school, gather toy donations and put on performances, but we did it. I am so proud of everyone’s efforts. They truly exemplified the spirit of giving.”
At the event, guests were treated to special student performances and had the opportunity to explore six Christmas themed stations. Students showcased their performing talent by putting on several dance numbers, a drum performance and singing Christmas carols to get their guests into the holiday spirit. In between performances, guests perused through the different stations which included the Christmas Bake Shop, Post Office (letters and cards to Santa), Stem Challenges, Photos with Santa, Games and Crafts.
“There is no greater gift than putting a smile on a child’s face on Christmas morning,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “I want to express my warmest gratitude to the entire Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Elementary School community for organizing an outstanding celebration — it was a beautiful way to kick off this meaningful initiative.”
