From Nov. 24 to Dec. 1, more than 250,000 dancers from around the world will compete at the International Dance Organization’s (IDO) World Show Dance Championships, also known as the “Olympics of Dance”, in Riesa, Germany. Joining the elites is none other than Ava Cassar, Grade 6 student from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Elementary School (CES) who will represent Canada on the world stage.
“Our entire school will be cheering on Ava as she competes in Germany. This prestigious honour is a true reflection of Ava’s discipline, poise and grace,” says Carla Cinelli, Principal at Our Lady of Hope.
Cassar has been dancing since she was four-years-old and is a dancer of all trades. She dances everything from ballet, to jazz, contemporary, hip hop and tap. She trains five days a week at the Somerville Dance Academy and dances competitively throughout Ontario.
“Ava is a hardworking and dedicated student who successfully balances her school work and busy dance schedule. We are so proud of her,” says Alice Hamilton, Ava’s Teacher at Our Lady of Hope.
Following an extensive audition process for Team Canada Dance, Cassar was selected to represent her country at the world championships – her first international competition.
“Ava executes great stage presence and charisma while she rehearses. Her work ethic and attitude have paid off and I am fully confident that her efforts will help the Canadian Team do extremely well,” says Kim Chalovich, Choreographer for Team Canada Dance.
After weeks of preparation for the world championships, she is ready to make one of the greatest performances in her young career on the international stage in what will be an unforgettable experience.
