On June 21st 2022, the YCDSB officially celebrated the ground-breaking of the new Child Care Centre at St. Rene Goupil – St. Luke Catholic Elementary School in Thornhill. The Child Care Centre is scheduled to open in September 2023.
The facility is planned as a 3 room centre and will include infant, toddler, and pre-school aged rooms for a total of 49 childcare spaces for children from 18 months. The new child care centre will serve many families in the Thornhill community with the hope of attracting new families to the YCDSB community.
The YCDSB sends thanks to the Ministry of Education and our trustees, in particular Trustee Cotton. The YCDSB would also like to pay tribute to Diana Candido, Superintendent of Education: Exceptional Learners, Fran Zeppieri, Manager of Child Care, Khaled Elgharbawy, our Superintendent of Facilities Services and Plant, Tom Pechkovsky, Coordinating Manager of Planning & Operations, and Adam McDonald, our Assistant Manager, Planning Services for all of their work on the Child Care Centre. Without their support and endorsement, this project would not be possible.
Last but not least, we would like to thank the Principal of St. Rene Goupil – St. Luke, Antonietta D’Addese, as well as, all of the school’s students and staff for their patience while this Child Care Centre is being constructed at their school. We also thank them in anticipation for sharing a piece of their school with the wider community.
