Groundbreaking for New Catholic Elementary School in Queensville

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Catholic elementary school in Queensville, Ont., that will provide the rapidly-growing community with a faith-filled, modern learning environment.

Designed to support students from the earliest years through Grade 8, the school will feature 421 pupil spaces and 49 child care spaces. The building will include four full-day Kindergarten classes, 14 additional classrooms, a dedicated special education room, a music room, a double gymnasium and a large, welcoming library.

“This new school will be a place where faith, learning and love come together for the benefit of Queensville’s children,” said Elizabeth Crowe, Chair of the YCDSB Board of Trustees. “We are grateful to the Ontario Government for funding this needed project, and to our East Gwillimbury partners who have supported this school every step of the way.”

The project is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Education, which was represented at the groundbreaking by Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe and Minister of Francophone Affairs.

“Our government is bringing education closer to home for East Gwillimbury families. By building a new Catholic elementary school here in our growing community, we are delivering on our promise to invest in the next generation,” said Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York–Simcoe. “I look forward to seeing more students in York–Simcoe learn in these new and state-of-the-art schools.”

Councillors from the Town of East Gwillimbury were also on hand to mark the occasion, including Acting Mayor Brian Johns.

Construction of the school is already underway, with the school expected to open in 2027. The architect for the project is Synder Architects and the contractor is Remo General Contracting Inc.

“Today’s groundbreaking reflects a strong partnership among the Ministry of Education, the YCDSB and the Town of East Gwillimbury that is focused on building the right place for students to learn and thrive,” said John De Faveri, Director of Education. “We look forward to welcoming families to a school that is rooted in Catholic faith and where every student is known, valued and cared for.”
