Notre Dame CES Marks Black Heritage Month with Liturgy

February marks the beginning of Black Heritage Month. Throughout the month, the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) will celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Black Canadians in shaping our country. We will take time to reflect on the lasting impact of Black pioneers and leaders within our communities and across the country.

On Tuesday, February 4th, Notre Dame CES in Newmarket, Ont., came together as a Catholic faith community to honour this legacy through a school-wide Black Heritage Month Liturgy. Led with great pride by our student leadership group, the liturgy was a meaningful time of reflection – committed to remembering the past while looking toward the future with hope and distinction.

During the liturgy, students engaged with the Gospel message, video reflections, songs and a Litany of Saints, praying for those who served both the Church and the Black community with faith, pride and glory.

Please feel free to look at the slides from the Notre Dame liturgy below.

There will be many more Black Heritage Month liturgies happening in the YCDSB moving forward.
