Luciano DeCicco, a graduate of the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB), entertained thousands when he sang the national anthems at the Toronto Blue Jays game on Friday, August 12, 2022.
“The Blue Jays are my favourite team of any sport,” DeCicco said as he reminisced on all the games he has watched with his father. “It was a dream come true for the both of us.”
DeCicco attended St. James CES and the Regional Arts Program (RAP) at St. Elizabeth CHS. Before graduating from St. Elizabeth in 2019, he was student council president and he participated in many of the school’s music clubs, ranging from Jazz to R&B.
The Aug. 12 performance before the sold out Rogers Centre was DeCicco’s first time singing the Canadian and American national anthems for the Blue Jays and he certainly impressed the team. DeCicco will sing the anthems again on Saturday, August 27, when the Blue Jays will commemorate the 30th anniversary of their 1992 World Series championship.
YCDSB is extremely proud to see this former student sharing his talents. DeCicco has shown all students, especially the aspiring singers in York Catholic’s RAP program, that they can do great things with some hard work.
“This is a testament that anyone can reach their dreams,” DeCicco said.
